Aby odpowiednio zagrać ten utwór trzeba na początku przesłuchać go kilka razy, zrozumieć o czym jest i wtedy wszystko okaże się jasne. Sam John mówił: Mój mózg podpowiedział mi, że to bardzo smutna piosenka, więc pomyślałem, ze skoro tekst jest smutny, to zrobię coś, co sprawi, ze akordy będą choć trochę weselsze. Już początek utworu świetnie to pokazuje. Niby oba pierwsze akordy są durowe - czyli wesołe - lecz połączenie, można powiedzieć oderwanych od siebie akordów, całkowicie zmienia ich odbiór. Możliwe, że jest tak przez zmianę dwóch dźwięków na strunie 2 i 3. W akordzie D-dur są to dźwięki a i d, czyli składniki akordu durowego w odległości kwarty, a w kolejnym, Fis-dur, dźwięki te przechodzą w ais (b) i cis, które są tercją małą, a więc brzmią smutno, molowo. Gdybyśmy do tych dźwięków, ais i cis, dodali jeszcze f uzyskalibyśmy akord b-moll. Te dwie strony, dur-moll, będą się ze sobą łączyć przez cały utwór, o czym się jeszcze przekonamy. Zaczynamy od wstępu. Najprościej uzyskać odpowiednią barwę grając go palcami, a poza tym tak jest po prostu najłatwiej. Na początku każdej zmiany akordu słychać najwyższy dźwięk, (d albo cis), lecz nie trzeba go grać, bo wyraźnie słychać, że został on dodany później, dodatkowo. Ten fragment staramy się grać delikatnie, cicho. Dalej wchodzi pierwsza zwrotka. Tą część lepiej grać kostką, da nam lepszą barwę. Tutaj też mimo przewagi akordów durowych na przełamanie zostały dodane cis-moll i gis-moll. Za pierwszym razem gramy bez większych urozmaiceń, po prostu odgrywamy kolejne akordy. Dopiero za drugim razem dzieję się trochę więcej. Uruchamiamy teraz nasz groove i bawimy się tymi akordami. Dodajemy ozdobniki, legato, dodatkowe dźwięki. Starajmy się, aby brzmiało to swobodnie, bez zbytnego napinania się. Musimy prowadzić, łączyć każdy akord ze sobą. Czy to za pomocą legata, czy może za pomocą odpowiednich dźwięków. Oto przykład: b|--------9--------------------------| G|--------9-----------8-8-8-8h9p8--8-|D|-7/--9--9-----------9-9-8--------9-| A|----------11/--9-9--9-9-8--------9-| LEGENDA: / - slide h - hammer on p - pull off Tutaj pokazałem połączenie akordów E-dur i H-dur. Można to wykorzystać po zagraniu akordu A-dur. W zwrotce uderzamy w struny ostrzej niż wcześniej, ale też bez przesady. Wszystkie zwrotki wieńczy akord E7 z septymą wielką. Później wchodzi refren(?). Trochę trudno to określić. W każdym razie jest to jedna z kulminacji napięcia, emocji w utworze. Najmocniej gramy na akordzie H-dur. Ten moment możemy albo uderzać cały czas z góry, albo naprzemiennie, Twój wybór co zabrzmi lepiej. Ta część jest też wyraźnie mniej wesoła od poprzednich, co można zobaczyć również w tekście. Z tego też względu powinniśmy uderzać mocniej i agresywniej. Dalej jest powrót do zwrotki i tu się nic nie zmienia. Ostatnie jest outro. Dodajemy do naszego brzmienia nieco chorusa i tak samo jak w zwrotce tu też bawimy się graniem. Dodajemy dźwięki, odejmujemy itd. Na końcu utworu znowu nam się przewija motyw dur-moll. Akord A-dur przechodzi w a-moll co jest swego rodzaju klamrą, połączeniem całego utworu, właśnie to sprawia, że jest on tak spójny i kończy się w sposób taki, że nic nam nie przeszkadza w zakończeniu i chcemy tylko posłuchać go drugi, siódmy i dwudziesty raz, wciąż ciesząc się nim tak samo. Warto zwrócić uwagę, że podobną progresję akordów zastosował Jimmy Page w utworze Stairway to Heaven. Zresztą jest to jeden z utworów, który prawdopodobnie najbardziej inspirował Johna w trakcie tworzenia i nagrywania Under The Bridge. Drugi to Little Wing. Warto obu utworów przesłuchać patrząc właśnie pod kątem powiązań między nimi a utworem RHCP. Pisałem wcześniej by zacząć cicho i później w kolejnych częściach grać głośniej. Moment kulminacji przypada właśnie na outro. W nim gramy już naprawdę mocno i głośno po czym powoli wyciszamy i już bardzo delikatnie uderzamy akord A-dur jako zwieńczenie całego utworu. A teraz sprzęt. GITARA Najprostszym wyborem był by tu Jaguar ze względu na to, że właśnie na tym modelu grał John w teledysku do tego utworu, ale każda inna gitara podobna do niej lub mająca single coil'e będzie tu odpowiednia. Czyli dowolny Stratocaster, Telecaster itd. Warto też pobawić się przystawkami. Ja w swoim stratocasterze używałem przystawki pod gryfem, ale równie dobrze mogła by to być przystawka pod mostkiem czy połączenie środek-mostek. WZMACNIACZ Lampa sprawdziła by się tu najlepiej, ale dobry tranzystor również da nam odpowiednie brzmienie. Ważne by podkręcić gain do takiego poziomu by przy mocniejszym ataku lekko się przesterował. Można też podkręcić trochę wysokie tony. EFEKTY Efektów w tym utworze raczej nie ma. Tylko na końcu utworu słychać chorus. Najlepiej by był dosyć mocny, z dużą głębokością i raczej niską (najlepiej dostosowaną do tempa utworu) częstotliwością. John najpewniej używał BOSS-a CE-1, ale każdy inny, chociażby CE-5, Small Clone lub jakiś Behringer, da sobie radę. Na dziś to tyle. Serdecznie zapraszam do obejrzenia mojego coveru "Under The Bridge" jak i samego Johna.
